Hamilton ‘s first Board of Trade was founded by Isaac Buchanan. He immigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1810. His interests stretched from dry goods to the railway boom and to politics and he was one of the original members of the first Parliament of Canada. His family estate, Auchmar, remains a landmark on Hamilton mountain as does the MacNab Street Presbyterian Church, which was built on land donated by Buchanan.
