What is Interlibrary Loan?
If HPL does not own a copy of what a customer needs, the customer can request that we borrow the item from another library in Ontario or Canada.
What can I borrow on Interlibrary Loans?
Books, Music CDs, Audiobooks, Playaways, Kits or copies of magazine articles that are not owned by the Hamilton Public Library System. Microfilms of Census records and other historical documents. CNIB and National Film Board of Canada materials are also available through interlibrary loans.
Are there any restrictions?
We are unable to provide the following kinds of materials:
- New Books (24 Months); Bestsellers
- Rare And Fragile Books
- DVDs and Blu Ray with the exception of CNIB And National Film Board of Canada material
- Any item that is available for less than $5.00 through Amazon.ca
- Articles that are available full-text through our online resources
Please note the following limitations:
- One request form per title.
- These requests usually take approximately four (4) weeks to fill and requests sent outside of Ontario often take longer
- We cannot guarantee fulfillment by a certain date.
